Australia Innings
Australia began their innings in chase of 206 for victory rather shakily when David Warner was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. On his very first ball making only six runs out of it. However, soon after that Travis Head came like a ray of light for Australia; he smashed out 76 off 43 balls including nine boundaries and four sixes. His aggressive knock kept Australia within reach indeed together with Mitchell Marsh (37 off 28) forming a good partnership.
Head took only 24 balls to make fifty while he kept going against the Indian bowlers throughout his innings. But this did not help Australia as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals due to which they could not maintain their momentum anymore. Glenn Maxwell also got things going by scoring 20 runs off just 12 balls. But again lost Kuldeep Yadav’s wicket thus slowing down the pace of Australia’s chase.
The effort that Head made was not enough since the lower order did not offer any significant support. Tim David (15 off 11) and Pat Cummins (11* off 7) attempted to speed up towards the end but it was too little and too late. Australia finished at 181/7; they fell short by 24 runs.
